Not because I lack the knowledge with which to speak and write correctly, but because while texting and blogging and speaking with friends I feel like my responses should not have to be limited by standard MLA format.

And I think we are glossing over perhaps the most offensive misspelling of them all: "a lot" is NOT one word, it is two. always two.Jacob Blankenshiphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13555471643920935747noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13290799.post-34963326906175827182008-12-01T13:46:00.000-08:002008-12-01T13:46:00.000-08:00I was reminded of this one at work the other day:W...I was reminded of this one at work the other day:

When people mean 'espresso' but *say* 'expresso'. We pulled out an American English dictionary to prove to him that it was in fact acceptable in American English.Meganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14732189859174663025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13290799.post-64475634287974895912008-11-29T19:28:00.000-08:002008-11-29T19:28:00.000-08:00It bugs me when people use English verbage/spellin...It bugs me when people use English verbage/spelling when they are painfully American. ie: honour, glamour, colour.

Also misused apostrophes, people who don't know how to use quotation marks properly, as well as those who use the texting shorthand you've described.

What makes me annoyed the most is seeing all these blunders and more on Craigslist personal ads. People who use "it'...Incorrect use of apostrophes. People who use "it's" for all uses, including the places where "its" would be correct (this is part of the apostrophe problem, but is prevalent enough to deserve a category of its own). The word "gift" used as a verb - what's wrong with good words like "present" or "bestow", or even *gasp* "give"? I'm sure I could come up with more, but these are my biggest peeves off the top of my head.Katiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00608429155677312762noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13290799.post-89249305537725077112008-11-29T09:54:00.000-08:002008-11-29T09:54:00.000-08:00oh, that should be apostrOphes...damn,chey and bra...oh, that should be apostrOphes...

damn, chey and brandy are gonna jump my sjit.

i'm on my phone!Pamelahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12740691730251268494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13290799.post-50723705315916391742008-11-29T09:53:00.000-08:002008-11-29T09:53:00.000-08:00mixing up "breath" and "breathe", as well as inapp...mixing up "breath" and "breathe", as well as inappropriate use of apostraphes.

i am guilty of the teenspeak text messages. it is just so hard to drive and text at the same time.
